GREAT EXPECTATIONS

As ' Great Expectations' is written entirely in 1st person narrative, the reader gets to appreciate the harsh reality of the world in which Pip grows up.

Magwitch's past before meeting Pip contributes to his circumstances. His early life parallels Pip's in that he was abandoned as a child and, by necessity, relied on crime to survive. Dicken's indicates that this could easily be Pip's outcome too if he lived in continued poverty.
